  • effects of widening Q factor on road cranks ?

another numpty question here on set up of new road bike 🙂

My cleats allow me to swop them over to widen Q factor. This takes shoe/crank clearance from just under 2mm at widest point of shoe to just under 4.5mm and will reduce scuffing up cranks, particularly with overshoes on. (Time RXS pedals and cleats)

will it do anything to feel/knees/comfort ?

I realise it will still be narrower than my mtb setup

    Thanks

Not a thing bar giving more clearance.

It’ll raise your power output by 25w if you have them set narrow. hth

Make sure you get a 80 watt spacer too.

I was told at my bike fit that due to my hip spacing, I, like most people, could do with a wider Q factor. Then you’ll be pushing down rather than down and in.

It wasn’t by much, so I didn’t bother. Thing is, there is such a too narrow.

I’m in secret talks with 3m, we are developing copter tape for chains and brake pads to prevent wear.

Andy Pruitt has some thoughts on the subject “stance width”, he might be right he might be……

Cav runs special DA pedals with long axles to increase q-factor.

And Obree got a world record with low q factor…it can’t be significant in general terms!
