We’re staying in Edinburgh this Sunday to Tuesday and the hotel charges £19 per day for parking. Wasn’t quite expecting it to be this much so just trying to guage if this is the goig rate?

Any local or past visitors know any cheaper parking alternatives which are hassle free and secure (will have a bike in the back).

You would best parking on a bus route in a residential area and bussing it in.

As SBZ says, what part of town and we will advise best area/street,

Would be Charlotte Sq, Princess Street type area.

Like everyone else, which is why the controlled parking zones have been extended so far out of the city centre (e.g. Morningside!).

Grumbling aside, however, this is a sensible plan. Park in Corstorphine or the lower end of Morningside and there’s plenty of buses into town and quick access back out of town.

Ditch the car and use the buses. You will find the start of the free parking zone on a good bus route will be Morningside/Braid Road

Then you can get a 16 into town in about 10-15 depending on traffic.

Bike wise you could take it in the hotel or park it here at the shop if it’s any use to you.

There is free parking on Roseburn Street (and surrounding streets) so depending what time you arrive you could park there (as it’s free, quite a few folk will park there, same goes for most places on the periphery of fee paying parking areas) – and it’s only 15 minutes stroll to the west end of Princes Street or hop on a bus.

There is also free on street parking all over Edinburgh on a Sunday.

I wouldn’t leave a bike in the back of a car tho.

Peripheral park and ride in a number of places.

Thanks guys, seems a friend of a friend has a flat with a parking space and no car.

Bikechain thanks awfully for the offer of keeping the bike at your shop but no need (probably try and pop on for a browse though).
