Does the Garmin edge 820 work while running off an external battery?

Not into dynamos and recharging (yet) but interested in boosting the life to allow longer rides (12hr+, up to 24hr) to be tracked.

I know some garmins work fine, some won’t play while connected. Anybody got a definitive answer for the 820?

Spotted it for £256 in Canyon.com, and I’m tempted!

    I’ve used a 18500 800mAh lithium USB top-up cell on my 800 – worked fine.

Yes, I have a little toptube bag that I use on long rides with a battery & food in it.

Dont u need a power lead with one of the pins disabled…or as soon as you plut the power in it goes into data transfer mode and stops recording your ride?

So long as the two data pins in the USB cable aren’t connected at the battery end it’ll work. Otherwise it might think it’s connected to a computer and won’t work.

I found the USB lead from a Lezyne light good as they are “power only” not “data and power”

Was certainly true of the 500; I thought Garmin had addressed this?
