There was a thread a week or so ago that mentioned this wonderful descent but mentioned that there were issues once the trail entered the woodland. It would appear that the Dartmoor piskies have been about and have :-
Trimmed the sides of the main traverse, resulting in a scarily fast but still technical trail. Easily one of the best on the moor.
On entering the wood, stay on the main trail. It has become a water course due to a spring but the piskies have diverted the water and added a small rock garden over the damaged trail, between 2 boulders.
Navigation is then still tricky, but there are now 2 armoured stream crossings if you can find them. The more it gets ridden, the more obvious the route to and over the crossings becomes.
As a result, the whole of the boggy section is now rideable.
The trail then becomes obvious singletrack all the way to the bottom.
Sure thing neil. Weather might be an issue but the plan is to loop round from Bovey and take in Smallacombe rocks, dingly dell, Coombe Down, Easdon and Nutcracker. If it’s on, there’ll be a post up on Friday night.
