One of our friends lives in the Green at Reeth (in the Yorkshire Dales). The TdF is going right through the village (past his house) and of course the build-up is gathering pace at an incredible speed. Apparently the road is jammed with bikes and the village is full of French amateur cyclists most of the time.
Anyway, he says the Dutch have planned to take over Kilnsey (in Wharfedale) for the race day and turn that into the Dutch area. They are expecting 10,000 to be camped on the Kilnsey Showground field. No doubt they will paint the road orange (if not the crag!). It’s going to be fantastic.
Hope the Tennants Arms is stocked up and no-one is planning on a swift exit to Mastilles!
I dont think most people realize how hard getting about will be for that weekend .
I found out that the Addingham roundabout which sees the tour twice will be closed at midnight on friday night and reopen at about 17.00 sat evening to close again at midnight sat and reopen 17.00 sunday evening
Biking and walking going to be the way to get about going to be an interesting weekend thats for sure
Not wanting to stereotype the Dutch at all but 10,000 Dutchmen completely hammered invading Yorkshire!
should be fun, they now how to party!
nb. stereotyping based on personal TDF experience 😀
