I have to drive to the O2 for a concert tomorrow night. Yes, I’d far rather take the train but I have an elderly passenger and 2 kids. From the west, Guildford to be exact, what’s the best route? Driving directions suggest a3 /a202 / a2, will that be a mare? Am I better going round the m25 and then back in from the east?

Yes, to your last idea. Did this last year. Two cars. One went round M25 and in from the east, the other went the direct route. The former was faster by an hour! From memory still took over an hour but was very easy as was the parking

Well signposted which helped when our sense of direction is suggesting that you ae going a v long way round.

Personally would use the M25 and then A2.

Same here. Most traffic coming out of London. A2 is very quick when clear

Definitely M25, then A2. However, keep an eye on the traffic updates and if there is carnage near the tunnel on the M25 that backs up as far as the A2 junction you can bail early and use the A20, then do 1 mile along the south circualr to get back on the A2

Thanks all. Long way round in traffic last night took 90 mins including a jam near clacket lane. The route planner way back at 10pm last night (s. circ, etc) while 20 miles shorter took about 15 mins less. I can see would have been a nightmare so you saved me a load of stress there!

So, who was on at the O2 last night? The coach parks were rammed when I set off to cycle home at 8 and there was a strange mix of punters when I got back to the office at 6.30.

It was a charity concert – Young Voices. Loads (like dozens) of school choirs, who’ve all been learning the same songs independantly and then go to the O2 (or other big venue if you aren’t a London / SE school) and get to sing them all together, with a proper backing band, conductor, proper soloists, African children’s choir, etc.

Lovely evening out, my eldest was singing with her school, among about 5000 others.

Their main website is down, seemingly due to traffic trying to find out if tomorrow’s MEN Arena concert will go ahead but here’s a related one.

m25 + a2 drop off at sainsburys, bang and the dirt is gone.

including a jam near clacket lane

    I think there’s a law about that…
Glad it all went well in the end.
