i’m upgrading the drivetrain on a friend’s bike, a while ago she had an XT crankset fitted but kept the old acera mechs, shifters and 8 speed cassette. it’s been running rough for a while, chain skipping and refusing to shift into certain combos etc so i got a set of sram x9 shifters, an x7 rear mech and a deore front mech to go on.
the rear is fine, all set up and the indexing is working a treat.
the front is being somewhat uncooperative however. i know it’s compatible with the shifter and it’s also correct for her frame (conventional pull, same as the old mech (it’s a kona fire mountain)) and i believe i’ve got the mech adjusted correctly for height and angle… is it possible that the chainline could be out due to spacers fitted when the BB and crankset were installed? that is, could this mech operate at a lesser (or greater) distance from the seat tube than the old one?
