Id welcome some advice please chaps.

Im currently running 2×9 – SLX double, XT mech, XTR shifters, Sram 950 cassette and chain.

My cranks are probably due replacing soon and Im wondering about my options. Id also like to use an extender to help on the climbs.

Id like to source another SLX Double crankset and add a cog extender to my existing cassette. Is that feasible?

Or can I use a newer SLX 10 speed crankset and also replace my cassette with a 10 speed and add the extender? I really dont want to have to replace my shifters and mech if I can avoid it but I dont know what is compatible.

I suppose an option is to look for a good condition used 10 or 11 speed complete drivetrain and finally join the 21st century!

You will need a new RH shifter and mech.

9sp to 10sp needs a new shifter and mech. Not sure why you would try for the expander 2x gives you a big range (wider spread on the front normally) I’d take a look at 11sp if you want the range and look at 1x
