off tomorrow for the day on the chuff-chuff with another couple, no shopping just a few drinks in the daytime, people watching, maybe a nice burger or something for tea then back home in the evening.

been a few times shopping so sort of know the area, but dont know the decent pubby areas.

any recommendations for pubs/areas to sit in the sun and just while the time away?

ideally not too far to walk from the train station.

    thanks

Ye olde trip to Jerusalem is good. There’s one right by the canal with a boat in it which is great. My personal fave is the junkyard in the lace market area.

Faraday has some brilliant windows for people watching late night.

Annies burger shack for the best burgers, chances of getting a table on a Friday are very small, give them.a ring as they don’t take bookings at some times.

You could try a friend of mine’s pub called Totally Tapped at 23 Chilwell Road. They serve only craft beers. He used to work at Jerusalem before.

The Dragon Inn in town is one of my faves for sitting outside.

Depends on how precious you are about the beer.

Best beer/people watching combo. near to the Station has to be The Vat and Fiddle. It’s the Castle Rock brewery tap, so the beer’s great, and people walk past the tables to get into town.

You should also think about the Malt Cross, just off the market square. No outside seating but in a brilliantly preserved Victorian music hall. Well worth seeing.

Beer is OK in The Bell right on Market Square, and if you get a seat outside plenty to look at.

    Hope that helps,

tried booking annies but as you rightly pointed out, no chance. tried reds as well but can only book a table at around 5.30. booked it in case but we may cancel as i think itll be too early.

If you’re into decent beer selection the Ned Ludd is a great venue. Some serious world beers on tap there plus plenty of craft and it’s a really nice pub too.

If you want a cracking burger head to Aniie’s Burger shack. They’ve got some great beers too in their tavern. Can get a table mid afternoon usually as a walk in but prob not on a Friday when people finish work.

If you want a decent curry that’s not pricey go to Desi Downtown, it’s cash only in there. Dead casual and a bit of a dive but with REALLY good curry for not a lot of cash.

just been google mapping, saved the suggestions as favourites and seems like we got a decent plan going now.

off the train and down to vat and fiddle.
back towards centre to the canalhouse (daveyboywonders boat in a pub suggestion).
up towards the castle for ye old trip to jerusalem.
up maid marians way to a little cluster of suggestions, the malt cross, the bell and then the dragon.

cant see us making it as far over as lace market area but junkyard and faradays are also noted in case.

rotor stern, totally tapped looks miiiiiiles away so almost certainly wont be hitting that one, but again, ive saved it in case we’re ever that way out.

thanks a lot for your help, really looking forward to a good day.

    cheers

EDIT: thanks for the curry suggestion, we may well go for that if we have no burger joy.

    EDIT EDIT:

Hooters is close to the train station.

Would depend if you valued “people” watching over a good beer and burger?

I drove past the vat and fiddle a couple of weekends ago on a sunny Friday evening- looked like a nice place to be. 😎

Kean’s Head in the Lace Market off High Pavement. Cracking beers and good food. The Malt Cross as above, beer a bit spendy I always think. The Herbet Kilpin is great, tucked way off Fletcher Gate on Bridlesmith Walk.

A quiet pub on the chameleon. It’s above the Bell and has a huge picture window looking over marked Sq. The entrance is a tiny alley which always looks properly suspicious, but the place is fine.

Recommend the Ned Ludd for amazing range of beers and great food. Been having our works do there the last few years and always impressive.

Often have live music on as well

    The grove. Still there?

The building is there but it’s been empty for ages.

    Happy Return gone too
