  • Dremeling the edge back on pawls.

My superstar Volta hubs have no spairs available and the freehub is slipping. You can’t feel it slip, but under power it makes lots of clicks and bangs.
Opening up shows the pawls are rounded. Could I give them a bit of a sharpen with the dremel, or is it sure fire death?

Hard to see how taking off MORE material would improve things

Can’t see any reason why not. Just need to keep it square so you get max surface contact.

Think I’d be looking for a cheap one to steal bits from.

If you take material off it, it then won’t engage at the same time as the other undamaged pawls.I suppose you could do all of them (if you can ensure they are all identical).

Depends how attached to your testicles you are I guess.

What Rorschach said. You could line them up in a vice and straight line it. Might be easier with a file rather than a Dremel. I hate myself now…. Dremel is life!

You might find the pawls are hardened anyway and pretty impervious to Dremel-ing, and a file certainly won’t touch them.

It’s superstar…they’re likely made of goats cheese.

Guess it comes down to the size of your dremel and a. Ive new sharp burr

You’d have to make them all identically sized. Good luck with that.

If they are surface hardened, you might have to do it all again, soon.

It should help, as per what others have said as long as you keep all pawls the same length. I would think it’ll be case hardened which might mean they don’t last so long even if you get the dremmeling spot on, but better than nothing if no spares are available.

Knowing SS theyre rebadged something. Find that something and other versions of and find the pawls.

If it’s just pawls, they’re likely to be rebranded novatec or similar
