There will be some amazing food eaten in the next week or so BUT…

What things do you put in a meal that have no right to go together (conventionally that is!)?

    I’ll kick it off.

LEEK & POTATO SOUP (BAXTERS IN THE BEST FOR THIS) WITH TINNED TUNA ADDED IN – before or after nuking it doesn’t real matter. Black pepper. Crusty bread.
Sounds so wrong and always gets a WTF reaction…until it’s sampled.

People seem to think I’m weird for having peanut butter on toast with either tomato or cucumber. Also, marmite and peanut better together is strangely nice.

another killer combo is welsh cakes, thick layer of butter and very thin slices of cheddar cheese.

Has to be proper welshcakes not the shit covered in sugar that you buy from shops

    marmite and peanut better together…

Is that a Scottish Unionist recipe?

Cheese is great with jam or Fruit cake. I also like jam with peanut butter.

Xmas cake and strong mature cheddar

Waste of good christmas cake. Unless yours isn’t very good ;-).
Fruit cake and cheese is good, but it needs to be a traditional dry fruit cake.

Our American neighbour has just issued her annual invitation to a Christmas “brunch” at which she always serves bananas wrapped in bacon.

This is considerably worse than it sounds.

Cheeses and Marmalade is how it should be served.

Cheese and jam rolls used to be the standard choice of roadies before all these pathetic gels.

The weirdest thing I heard someone ask for in a sandwich shop was “ham, jam, onion and mustard”.

Two of my favourites seem to split opinion… Cream cheese and banana sandwiches. Cottage cheese and marmite on toast.

Banana, mandarin, chickpea and tea curry. Trust me it’s ace.

Being a philistine in most measures I wasn’t introduced to stilton and mince pie until recently. I scoffed at it initially. And then scoffed it. And some more.

Somebody here at work had a combo for breakfast that opened my eyes…..

Poached eggs on Marmite toast….. Now I’m a Marmite fan, I’m a poached egg fan but have never tried this. I may have to give it a whirl at Christmas.

Anyone else have experience of this one?!

Toast, butter, marmite, peanut butter, ketchup, ground pepper.

    Try it.

    Poached eggs on Marmite toast…..

Pretty much anything on toast gets the marmite treatment here. Eggs, beans, cheese, all better for a thick spread of marmite.

    When bikepacking or backpacking:
Boil water, chuck in packet veg soup, add spicy Cous cous packet.
It tastes weird but it’s a genius idea!

My sandwich of choice big ride days- also known as the sandwich that killed Elvis:

A crusty cob (what we call a bread roll in the civilised part of the country) , buttered, with streaky bacon, peanut butter and apricot conserve.

My riding pals always ask if i’m bringing the Elvis sandwiches. As well as the date & coconut chewy bar that I make.
