The wife and I are planning a jaunt down to Dorset for the first time to explore the Jurassic Coast walking and taking the ‘monstercross/gravel bikes.

Never been before so can anybody recommend a nice quiet small campsite on or near the coast that has a nice pub nearby?

Eypes Mouth has a great site right on the coast path with cafe, and pub in walking distance

Langton Matravers near Swanage, you’ve got Toms field (quite small, good facilities, likely to be booked up) or Acton field (a bit more basic, but more likely to have space at short notice).

There’s also a large but very basic (portaloos) farm site up the road in Worth Matravers which opens for a few weeks every year during the school hols.

The Kings Arms in Langton is a very serviceable local pub and then you’ve got the one-and-only Square & Compass over in Worth…

Oooh… Brings back memories of holidays in Dorset past..

Going back again this summer for the first time in 15 years… cant wait.

Not camping though…so not much help!

We stayed in Dunshay Manor and I seem to remember there being a campsite adjacent on Downshay farm. Couldnt say what it was like though. 🙂

Seatown, just off the A35 at Chideock. The campsite is right by the beach and there’s a pub. Close to Charmouth and Lyme Regis

We stayed at Golden Cap, was such a great holiday!

Ewelease is amazing. Stunning views and their own beach and fires are allowed which is a must! It’s like a mini festival site.

Eweleaze is great but can get mega busy now at weekends in august, their sister site nearby Shortlake farm is a bit quieter, still great views and a bit nearer to walk to pub in osmington or that other one along the coast path. Had a great time there last year, will be there again this year for sure.

might be off to toms field tomorrow until the weather breaks. nice relaxed family vibe.

burn bake is nice as well but gets busy. right on rempstone heath with some nice bike routes from the site.

Try Osmington Mills

Tom’s Field gets the nod here too.

Burnbake is nice & as mentioned has routes to/from Studland beaches. Does get busy & people hog space as it’s unmarked pitches. There is a normal field out of the wooded bit though. No pub within walking distance.
Eweleaze is fine, but fancy onsite shop(s), lots of ‘earth-mothers’ and many many free-range children (which can be a bit amusing to be fair). Pub is walking distance along narrow windy coast path but gets v. busy – Shortlake might be better for what you’ve asked for.
Seatown Golden Cap is also decent & the pub there’s pretty good too.
