People who drive vans or cars festooned in DOG UNIT stickers, hi-viz reflective stickers, lights and other crap

I have absolutely no idea what you are on about – unless, as jam bo, suggests it’s the Police or SAR?

I fancy some of these for the van though

No, certainly not police! Clapped out Renault Scenics driven by large, bald headed, older buffoons. Think dog walkers or ‘security’

    I fear without pics….this thread…….is somewhat useless.

Sure, here’s a picture but not sure it makes the thread any less useless.

Are you sure you didn’t misread it?

    Maybe they were selling Doughnuts?

Yes, we’ve got a local idiot that does this. What’s it all about?

A scruffy transit decked out in fake security crap.

    No that’s Gee Unit.

Security is just one of those industries isn’t it. IT’s full of social awkward types, Finance full of psychopaths and Security full of Walts and Bullys.

Doesn’t sound like a vehicle that would used in any official security capacity does it? Is this some kind of guy who breeds big aggressive dogs or some nonsese?

There’s a towpath near me and there are a few guys who regularly take their dogs for a shit walk there. Some of them have big vans with decal/stickers of their dogs on the side but no “security” or high vis vis etc

Other than police vehicles I’ve never seen a van decked out like that.

You need to get some GING stickers made up to add to the signwriting.

I saw a whole load of them in North Wales this summer. Vans all decked out in dog unit decals and blue lights, plus search and rescue decals. Looked just like police vans but full of middle aged men taking themselves very seriously. All a bit weird.

Just to clarify, they’re not police, SAR or legit security….. They’re usually fat, old, moustached types, I think they’re just trying to make their dog walking job look a bit more special, like calling people who make coffee “baristas” (nowt wrong with dog walking or coffee making)

    Think Keith Laird 😆

Lol. That picture reminds me of a gif, someone used to post on RADBMX, years ago. Rick Astley was dancing around inside an old man’s bottom. Once seen and all that. 😯 😯 😯

Dog unit vans = rubbish bald builders with a jack Russel type dog. Round my way anyway.

You have just described a guy on my street perfectly. Except his Astra van was so clapped out he’s just replaced it with a Ford somethingorother.

HIs alsatian is ****** terrifying though.

It’s the horse lorries and boxes that say ‘Horses’ on the side and front that make me wonder… as if it wasn’t obvious enough.

Well writing “I’m considerably richer than you” would be a tad gauche, and take up too much space now wouldn’t it.

The ones we saw looked just like police vans, so much so my wife was convinced they were, until I pointed out that the police don’t drive 2002 transits and the didn’t actually say Police on them. I can’t really understand why they don’t get pulled for making their vans look that way?

Yip seen these too, driver’s are also prone to wearing keys on belt loops and very fashionable Bluetooth headsets, whilst walking round the supermarket, just in case…

I genuinely feel like I’m missing out here. I want to see sad middle aged men in fake police vehicles 🙁

We sat behind such a vehicle in the ferry queue at Calais a few years back. Car done up to look a bit like a police car but clearly not police. Maybe they’re ex police cars sold off with the decals still on?

    Google SARDA North wales.

I’m one of those middle aged men (not in Wales) but I use my own car without any decals. I dont take myself too seriously. What I do do though is give up my time to train and look for lost people. No-one gets paid. We are all members of our local mountain rescue teams.

Perhaps one day that lost person might be you or one of your relatives so don’t be too judgmental.

Just want to reiterate, these people I’m referring to aren’t any form of SAR. Noujing but respect for those folks

Wow, calm down. What was that about taking themselves too seriously?
No it wasn’t SARDA, who have a very valid purpose and I’m fairly sure don’t drive white vans with reflective strips and dog unit decals all over them.

My disagreement with the ones I saw is the degree to which they make themselves look like the Police when they are nothing of the sort.

Some are private security search dogs for drugs, explosives etc

A girl I know is a security officer who has 2 dogs, an Alsatian type that guards building sites overnight and a lab which does drug searches at raves etc.

It’s very debatable how close they come to looking like Police without actually saying Police on the vans, uniform etc….

I think what Houns is getting at is stuff a bit like this, but crapper:

    Full link here.

Imagine that, but in a shit Citroen Picasso or Escort van…

You see a few round here, as well those cars with “CCTV” stickers all over them, ‘cos they’ve just bought a dashcam.

RAYNET do this as well. Serves a purpose but seems a bit ‘wannabe’

Well I quite like the “dog section” vehicles.

I like to think they’re on their way to a classical music concert, where they’re part of the orchestra.

On an entirely tangential basis, I love the word “festooned” 🙂

SARDA are great. Walts are not.
