    For protection?

Does it do anything else to the image?

not enough usually 🙁 IME UV tends to desaturate the blueness of the sky.

stops landscapes (i.e. stuff with a few kilometers of air between you and the subject) appearing blue

+1 for catflees. And it improves most outdoor shots.

UV filter does the job of helping reduce the effect of UV haze in images, and also (and perhaps more importantly really) protects the expensive front of the lens from scratches and damage. A £20 filter is a lot cheaper to replace than a £200 lens.

Yes, leave one on my lenses all the time. More likely to help a picture than ruin one.

don’t use them. most of my lenses have deep lenshoods and on the wides they are a big flat piece of glass that’s prone to flare.
not bothered about scratching a front element that’s what insurance is for. taking care with your kit helps too.

Leave one on (almost) always. Unless I swap lenses and get forget anyway.

Have some but never usually bother with them for protection purposes unless there is a high chance of the lens taking a hit.

Uh, I meant they don’t seem to take out enough of the UV, as skies often come out less blue than they looked to my eyes!
