My ankles aren’t what they once were, a combination of genetics and running. I’ve retired from running, have a number of stretches and use moulded insoles to manage the situation.

I’ve been on SPDs since 1994 or thereabouts but as I’m getting a new bike in the coming weeks I thought I’d revisit the pedal question. Is there any proof of one being better for joints/ligaments etc over the other?

Opinions or links to articles greatly appreciated.

Depends what is wrong with your ankles. If your current pedals are not causing you issues, then stick with them. You might need to bike fit yourself on the new bike though, to recreate your position from the old bike
