    Alrighty.

I’m suffering for the last few months with on-off symptoms of feeling like i almost have swallowed a cow (before you ask, no, i’ve not swallowed a cow).

It’s like something is ‘stuck’ by my adams apple and a sense of feeling sick. It comes and goes without any real logic i can pinpoint. Sometimes like today when it’s quite bad i get a shortness of breath during exercise and a higher heart rate than usual to maintain exercise rate/speed/etc.

apart from the obvious answer of bad aids… any other ideas ?

Not at all mate, i’m known as being one of the most laid back people ever, I/We are going through the process of selling our house currently, but not convinced it’s stressing me per se.

It’s fine. When it swells enough to stop you breathing for a few hours go to the GP

Go and see your doctor straight away, my father had similar symptoms.

As above, Doctor is a must but that’s probably what they will tell you, hopefully…..

    Utterly ridiculous, isn’t it?

Last time I rang to make an appointment (persistent cough after a dose of man-flu), the receptionist asked if it was an emergency. Being in one of those moods, I said that I didn’t know and that was why I wanted to see a doctor!

She said four days, I said I could be dead by then for all I know. So I got an appointment that afternoon.

It used to really annoy me that our surgery won’t allow you to make an appt in advance for something non-urgent. You had to phone on the day (after 08:20) to try and get an appointment that day.
The only problem was I would be at work by then and it was an hours journey away! Useless!

Dunno mate, i don’t really go to the doctors. From my wife/sons experiences you can ring up at 8.00am and book one and generally get the same day…. but TBH i’m not convinced it’s that urgent.

    Thyroid issues maybe?

I would say that having had the symptoms for a few months, then being pushed by an online forum to see a doctor, that waiting another ten days probably seems appropriate….no?

Seems perfectly reasonable to me under the circumstances.

She asked if it was urgent….

    I said no…

If i drop dead in 8 dead, you lot can tell her i was wrong.

Good mate is an ENT consultant and has lost two patients in the last week – both had throat cancer. See the doc.

GMC now recommends we quacks do not give internet advice in situations like this

    Go and see your GP

oddly enough i’ve experienced those symptoms, but narrowed it down to drinking 1 type of coffee.. Harrogates.. i was experimenting with different supermarket coffees, and on cue everytime i tried a Harrogat coffee my throat felt like it was trying to swallow but couldn’t..

    edit: Taylors of Harrogate!

Absolutely. If it scares you into seeing the GP then it’s done the job 😉

As a doctor* I always advise people seeking an internet diagnosis to go and see their GP.

    * I am not a doctor.
