I'd like to give my dog a piece of everything from our dinner and put it in her bowl. Is this stupid, bad for her, have you every done anything like that?
Not sure what to do or think so help me with some answers.

No, I am even worse, my cat gets her own special christmas dinner on christmas day. Usually a nice bit of salmon. I'm such a softie..
I doubt that giving her all that you say once a year will hurt that much, very fatty mind !
And aren't dogs allergic to chocolate ??

its a well known fact that dogs explode if you give them cadburys. anything by galaxy is fine though.

The cats don't get a full dinner but they will be given some turkey in their bowls as a treat.

Cats, I have no idea about, so someone else will have to help you with that.
With dogs you need to apply some rules. Dogs will eat pretty much anything you put in front of them, as they are scavengers as well as hunters, BUT that doesn't mean that everything is good for them.
Grapes and raisins, onions and garlic and chocolate are all poisonous to dogs so they can definitly stay on the banned list. Generally speaking anything that is full of salt, sugar or covered in any sort or rich sauce is bad for them as well. It plays havoc with their guts (which could be intersting Boxing Day morning) and it's not good for their kidneys.
Think plain. Plain turkey, beef, chicken and plain root veg, carrots, potatoe, cabbage all very good for dogs, and will dissappear in about 3 seconds flat. All well cooked as well, raw meat, contrary to belief, doesn't do their guts any good. The modern domesticated dog is a long way from their wild hunting ancestors.
Don't over do it either, otherwise they will want it everyday. Oh, and giblets as well. Dogs love giblets.

Our old cat used to eat the (cooked) turkey giblets in one epic sitting. I thought cats were supposed to self-regulate their eating but Conan didn't know that and after spending a good hour or two scoffing the lot he used to curl up and sleep for 48 hours.
Did it every year for 17 years I miss that cat

if we are having a roast the dog will get some, just don't put any gravy on as it's a too salty and for some reason our dog wont eat runner beans

my dogs both get a full xmas dinner. but no dessert. and chocolate is a def no no.
Got a great pic somewhere of our old dog peggy with a lone sprout in her bowl looking up at us with the expression "you expect me to eat that?" She'd eaten everything else, licked the gravy off the sprout and left it. She was a pig with her food and would scoff anything. This is reason enough never to touch sprouts.

Last Xmas was shared with my parents cat. He lay in a basket at the end of the table, not so quietly dying.
Even some turkey didn't tempt him to eat. Pigs in blanket failed too.

I did get our dog a Jumbone and she'll get some turkey as well.

It's a myth that cats don't overeat, I have seen some well fat cats. Wee basket balls with little paws sticking out.
I have given up on buying my cat toys, the only thing she likes is the laser pointer, and I get bored with that way before she does.

Oh, and in case anyone is thinking about giving the dog a bone, please make sure it's the right one. Most bones are too soft for dogs and will simply crack and splinter, which will only end in an emergency trip to the vets. Not good for either of you. Roasted beef shin bones are good if you want to do them yourself, or just buy them from the pet store.
Alternatively, Jasper likes to drive everyone nuts, with his favourite toy, the fluffy squeeky bone.

Since he has little or no concept of what christmas is our dog will get a few scraps of turkey in with his normal foor but that's it. He has got a lovely big rawhide bone as a present though, so he does get something. TBH if I let him poke at the decorations on the in-laws tree for 5 min he'll be happy...

My dogs will.
They tend to get any left over veg from roasts anyway., with gravy.
just don't put any gravy on as it's a too salty
My gravy is completely home made and is not at all salty.
They love carrots with gravy, will eat most veg - sprouts, broccoli, runner beans but for some reason not keen on peas.

My dear old Staffy Badger always used to get a roast meal on Sundays, meat and all the veg left on plates with a bit of gravy poured over the top. He would attack it with gusto, full on eating like he had been starved for a month. Then he would stop and carefully let all the peas fall out of his mouth around his bowl. Amazingly they were undamaged. No idea how he managed to do it. He would also get a collar of tinsel on Christmas Day. I really miss the old bugger.

My dogs Toynbee and Mandela will be having some vegetarian treats as usual this year. It's a common misconception that they reject veggie food, in fact the reverse is true. Mine simply can't resist the lentil and cous cous surprise we concoct for them. A few broadbeans and tofu thrown in for good measure and they're quite content.

We always save a little bit of what we're having for the cats. Young Pablo will have a bit of pheasant on xmas day and a bit of goose on boxing day...........if he's a good boy!
