    I've not noticed any difference to the old conventional ones?. Surely the shadow mech is just marketing bollox anyway?

    From experience, i'd say that the cage and body springs are stiffer than non shadow mechs (i've got both on my bikes). The shadow is much harder to pull back when installing the wheel. I prefer it as it tends to keep the chain much tigher, and therefore less likely to wander about.
    Still didnt stop my chain rattling like a b@stard coming down a hill on a ride yesterday tho.
