Are you sure? I know 9 speed road mechs work with 9 speed MTB shifters as I’ve been running 105 mechs on my DH bike for years.

You are right about 9-Road mechs and 9-MTB shifters; same pull ratio.

10M and 10R use different pull ratios, forcing you to buy a matching set.

    You can run a 10R mech with a flat-bar shifter (R440 I think).

    What Paul said.

There are a few 10speed flat bar shifters arround (might even be an ultegra level one) but that’s probably more expensive than buying a mtb 10s mech.

    As above, not with Shimano 10sp R / M (as you’d asked).

Am I right in thinking that SRAM 10sp is good across both Road and MTB?

In a similiar vein; I’ve heard that for shimano, 9-speed mtb works with 10-speed road. Anyone confirm or deny?

    Yes

I currently use a Dura Ace S/C rear mech on my XT 10 speed rear end & apart for a very short while when XT/XTR shortcage rear mechs were easily available I have used a road rear mech since I first started riding MTBs in the early 80’s
