I commuted to work on my mountain bike today. Put some slick tyres on it that I found in the shed and locked the fork out. It doesn’t hold speed as well as my regular bike (700x28c) and the gears are quite widely spaced (obviously!) but it accelerates like the proverbial of a shovel and speed hops over speed bumps were a hoot. Aside from the fact that I can’t fit my pannier bags on it without ruining it – do I even need a “normal” commuting bike any more? Convince me why…

(when I’m not healing broken bits) I commute 60 minutes/day on my mountain bike. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

It’s very satisfying scalping lycra-kitted roadies and if I fancy it I can nip up the woods on my way home 🙂

You will wear out your drivetrain quicker if you commute on the mtb? (maybe only a problem if your mtb is better specced than your commuter bike)
