As above first time doing this job and I don’t have a bike stand and don’t want to spend money on a stand just for this job. It’s a 2003 Spesh Enduro so the linkage will cave in on me when I take the shock off with the bike standing up-right. I’m thinking if I get some bubble wrap and put it where there would be metal on metal contact with the linkage and stick some wedge where the shock is that might be enough and save me £££ on a stand.

Turn the bike upside down and take the rear wheel off.

Piece of wood or rolled up inner tube to wedge in the frame will do. I use to use some wire hanging from the ceiling or wall looped round the saddle to hold the frame up a bit to stop any metal parts touching.

Are you looking for an excuse to buy a nice Park workstand? 😉

Just ask the wife/girlfriend to hold the bike for you 😉
