Our flat has laminate flooring and skirting boards (which went in first).

Now short of ripping off the skirting boards (and having to pay a plasterer to clean up the mess) is there any way of hideing this unsightly mess where the flooring meets the skirting arround doors?

My only 2 thoughts are:

Buckets and buckets of wood filler which would look abit of a mess.

or….

Wider flatter bits of moulding, which woult take days to jigsaw/dremmel into the right size arround the entire room (did I mention the walls arent completely straight?).

Beading does the job it flexible enough to cope with uneven Walls.

if you havent removed and replaced the skirting boards then normal practice is to use some quadrant profile wood. Pinned and gripfilled to the skirting, dont pin to the floor to allow it to expand.

tasty bit of mitreing and trimming around architraves etc.,

aha, I see its already bindun. but not particularly well.

Some patience and a bit of GCSE woodwork ahead then 😉

Drac, the moutling/beading currently bends arround the walls nicely, but doesnt work arround the door frames, wider/flatter stuff would be cutable arroud the doors but would be a nightmare arround the walls?

You should have put a piece of lamflo, against the door frames upside down with the underlay below it, then uased that as a guide to cut the frames so the lamflo slided underneath.

Screwfix do lamflo sealant, like a mastic type you need a mastic gun as well.

Ah that’ll need beading proper, or like you say ripping the skirting off and doing a proper job. My usual way of doing it is to saw the bottoms off the architrave too with one of these: http://www.feinmultimaster.co.uk/fein_multimaster.htm
and tucking the laminate under.

Laminate is easy to do… but not easy to look classy.

Rip up nasty cheap laminate. Replace with anything else in the world – varnished newspapers would be better.

Can still be done just needs some work rather trying to stick to bits of wood together like your doing.

But yeah spend a little more and get some carndean or equivalent put down.

Use putty 🙂 Will fill all those bits and colour down nicely.

We’re not looking for a great job, just needs to look passable at a distance so people arent thinking “this needs ripping up and doing again”

Might try this allong the skirting boards upto the door frame.

Then a bit of thin solid wood arround the door frames cut to size to cover the holes?

Putty was the first plan, but will it look any better than the existing mess?

I’d replace that laminate quadrant with timber quadrant, use filler, rub down all the paintwork and paint the whole lot white.

Depends if youre any good at putting it in 🙂 Use a putty knife or small scraper to ensure the gap is full and you have a flat top to it. It’s not the best solution but it’s probably the most cost effective one.
