Any plumbers around? Have a problem with the bog. Whenever it's flushed, the cistern fills ok but is followed by a hellish vibration in the pipes somewhere. Really loud. Just started a while back. Any tips on what to look for to sort it out?

Do you know how you go about sorting this? Is it just a case of replacing the internals of the cistern?

I'm no expert but replacing a cistern valve is pretty easy, lots of info on t'interweb.

most likely just needs a new washer in the inlet valve, or could be debris stuck in the valve flow restrictor.

or a wee airlock somewhere.
Has the water been off recently and you've not noticed?

Washer is a possibility for my system, don't believe there is an air lock. Cister is old and must have ben mega cheep as it is platic (the entire thing not just the internals). Just need it to work for a year or so to give me time to save up for a new bathroom.

Just flush the loo then as the noise comes, close (or open) the main stopcock downstairs a little. Only a temporary fix but the change in flow might take the system away from the critical condition that's causing the resonance.
Then change the washer or the valve.

turn back the stop cock will usually sort it out, the hammer is the extra pressure making the pipes vibrate more than usual just close the stop tap a little and it ll go away, if not then a new valve or even just the rubber will sort it.
no special tools needed what ever the cause..Posted 10 months ago #
