Well the second in six months has just started grinding and clicking away. First on rusted away in less than a month, this one was done on warranty.

Is it a press fit as it looks very different than normal. I have a normal one, but not sure if the Diverge has a threaded shell; I need to get the back on the road asap…

I am going back to cotterpins asap at this rate!

If it’s a carbon frame then it’s pressfit. I have to say that I sold the original Praxis Works cranks and bottom bracket that came with the bike before I’d even used it. Reason being one bearing was a different size from the other. The cranks didn’t appeal to me both in appearance, weight and length. I got a Praxis BB30 to shimano Bottom Bracket and a Shimano crank set. The bearings are the same both sides which would facilitate replacement. When replacing coat the bearings in grease. I use marine grade grease. I haven’t had to replace the bearings in the bottom bracket with over 8000 miles all year riding and they still feel smooth.

Which model. The A1 has a standard external BB.

Its one of these, I have looked everywhere to get some specs; its been brilliant, but this BB is appaling; I may have to go for Hope or Chris King.

Iirc the smartweld is pressfit so I would be looking at a wheels mfg one for around £60 they will last much longer. Should be available to order from any decent lbs

Cheers, I had a chat with Specialized and its going back to the shop.

Any thoughts on why they may fail?

I’d try pushing for them to get something better.

    Details of that here http://www.praxiscycles.com/product/shimano-conversion-bb/

Or maybe the Hope version. http://www.hopetech.com/product/press-fit-pf46-bottom-bracket/

I know people who have and swear by the Praxxis. I am about to try the Hope version because the bearings are very serviceable, easily replaced if the worst happens and British.

PS – the Hope needs a special fitting tool….

Any thoughts on why they may fail?

Because it is a bearing exposed to British weather

Because it’s designed to be cheap to make,
    rather than to last properly?

How many miles, out of interest?
