Good evening all,

Just bought a pair of Avid HS1 rotors to replace Shimano SLX ones, same sizes (obviously!) but upon fitting the pads are rubbing like a bitch – I am relatively new to these new fangled disk brakes, is there a way to adjust the pads? Or is there something else I am missing? The brakes are Shimano M666 SLX jobbies, if that helps.

You have to loosen the bolts that hold the brake caliper to the adapter and line it up..

just take the calipers off and push the pistons back home. you should really take pads out when doing this to avoid damage. then just set-up your caliper again. hope have a good vid on youtube showing you how to set them up.

use a plastic tyre lever or similar to prize the pads apart, refit the wheel, loosen the brake caliper bolts then pull the brake and whilst holding the brake lever retighten the caliper bolts, this should solve your problems. If there is still some rubbing loosen the caliper bolts and adjust by eye.

either do it that way or follow the directions from the hope set-up vid. basically you aline the caliper to the center of the disc and tighten then pull leaver one piston will move faster then other try and slow that piston down with a small flat screw driver so pad contact disc at exact same time……… or just do it lazy way

Sorted and running smoothly. I have to admit to doing it the lazy way (just want to get out riding / lazy / short of patience!)
