    Hi,

Does anyone know if I can use Avid adaptors with shimano brakes because they’re half the price?

I want to put Shimano brakes onto standard IS frame and fork mounts with a 180mm rotor up front and a 160mm at the back. Can I just use the +20mm IS adaptor in both cases?

I asked on the CRC website but they recommended a Hope adaptor for IS brakes (Shimano are post mount aren’t they?) which costs double the Shimano ones! So I was hoping I could get a better answer from the Singletrack think tank.

    Cheers

Don’t think you can as Avid use washers under the caliper in order to get the correct spacing.

Shimano are post mount so you will need post to whatever your bike mounts are, front most likely post, rear most likely IS.

After stripping 4mm of thread due to boding adapters with what I had lying around, I’m now fine with paying 7.99 (cycle surgery) for shimano’s adapters with cup and ball washers and the right length bolts!

Merlin Cycles also have them in stock, 7 quid each.

Thanks folks. Sounds like the avids are a bad idea – Shimano it is then.
