Have M&S jumped the shark in terms of choice of goods to be associated with a religious event?

I’m not religious but choosing an extinct animal that lots of Christians struggle to fit into a creationist ideology to represent rebirth and new life associated with the death of the son of a deity seems a bit odd?

I like it even more than those fish with legs things people have on their cars. Eggcellent idea 🙂

Do Pagans not believe in dinosaurs?

Are dinosaurs part of a belief system now rather than just ‘a fact’?

    FTFY.

Maybe their product development team are staunch atheists and thought it would be funny?

Easter has jumped the shark years ago, its an orgy of chocolate and commercialism – just like xmas in fact (minus the chocolate). That ship’s well and truly sailed

    That depends on your view.

Until they make a chocolate Richard Dawkins, I think it’s on the side of good taste.

….well, as good as easter egg chocolate can taste.

Well I’ll be nailing my two to a cross before burying them alive for a couple of days* to make sure they get the REAL message. Then they can have their chocolates.

    * means I’ll get out for a ride or two, bonus.

    Nice one M&S!

One can only hope that they bring out a Ramadam lunch set, complete with beer in the future.

I think they need a poster depicting a goldfish that leaves lincoln logs in sock drawers. That’s the story of jesus…

    4 day weekend

Not in Ireland – if you work for an american company you don’t get good friday off.

And you can’t buy alcohol (unless at a train station with a valid ticket – go figure). It’s funny to see the stags/hens over for easter weekend wondering around looking way too sober in the touristy parts of town.

You do get a good party on the 17th March though 🙂

It would be inappropriate to make a chocolate Dawkins until he’s been crucified and and sufficient time has passed to demonstrate that he’s not going to make a surprise re-appearance

Presumably if you are a practicing Jedi you’d be okay with their Darth Vader easter egg?

Yeah and named Easter, more correctly Oestre, after a pagan feritility goddess too.
What’s wrong with Bunnies anyway… or couldn’t they do Dragons

Mr blobby – do you think I’m some kind of monster? Of course we didn’t starve them, they had a bowl of gruel every morning, assuming they’d mined enough uranium the previous day.

All sorts of companies have been making all sorts of chocolate shapes for years and years. I don’t get what the issue is for the OP.

Not in the least. Most Easter stuff is pre-christian anyway. Bunnies, eggs, flowers and all, they are all about spring, not Jesus. They actual Christian stuff seems to be pretty limited to actual church as far as I can tell.

So given that eggs are one of the long standing symbols, dinosaurs laid eggs, and dinosaurs are popular with kids, it seems fine to me. I don’t think Easter eggs are chicken-specific 🙂

I can see why some christians could be offended; they like these vestigially christian events like Easter, Christmas etc, as it lets them say “Look how christian britain is! Look how many people are participating in this christian festival!”. Even though they’re all basically Amazon festivals these days. Stuff like this creates a bit of extra congnitive dissonance for them, where it’s not just ignorably not christian, it’s incompatible.
