Apropos of absolutely nothing, what’s your Desert Island Roast Dinner? The rules are:

1 x Meat (sorry veggies, this ain’t your thread)
    1 x Potato dish
    2 x Veg
1 x wildcard accompaniment (like a yorkshire pud, or another type of potato or veg)
    1 x condiment
Your choice and quantity of gravy (from light jus to crude oil in colour and consistency)
    Your choice of beverage

    I’ll start:

    Lamb
    Roast spuds
    Mashed swede, red cabbage
    Roast Parsnips
    Mint sauce
    A bit of light gravy
A pint of Habit from the Flying Monk brewery.

    There’s always one, and it’s always you…

There’s always at least two, and it’s usually me and Binners.

Having said that, let’s evaluate my choice against your stated criteria and test my response for validity shall we?

Roast? – Check – A Tandoor is an oven is it not?
Meat? – Check – Chicken is meat
Potato Dish? – Chips are made of spuds.
2 types of Veg – Onion Rings and Veg pakora
Wildcard accompaniment – This is the very essence of Munchy Box.
Sauce / Gravy – “Chili sauce my friend?”

Refreshing beverage – Bru is an integral part of my cultural heritage.

I’d also wager that my calorie laden effort would sustain me on this fictional island long after you’ve eaten your own foot.

Well, when you put it like that I can only apologise for my initial sceptism. Maybe we should exchange a roast potato for a veg pakora, and in that way make our own tiny metaphorical dent in the cultural barricade that so sadly exists between us.

Rib of beef – medium rare
Roasties skins on, well seasoned with rosemary salt and pepper done in light olive oil and a knob of lard (any other form of potato invalidates it as a roast dinner)
    Honey and black pepper parsnips
Buttered carrots and kale (counts as one)
    Yorkshire pudding
    Horseradish
A lot of gravy, black as midnight black as pitch, blacker than the foulest witch, glossy but not thick, sharpened and sweetened with balsamic vinegar (cooked out)
    Pint of Landlord.

Lots of love for beef I see. Something I can never really understand, cos it doesn’t really taste of anything, it just tastes like ‘meat’.

I assumed you meant Veg dish, as you’d put potato dish in the category above.

    😛

Yeah, and chicken – just tastes of rat, frog, and everything that isn’t proper meat really.

Mint sauce .. especially mixed into the rice.

90% of beef is like that, you need to find the good well-hung stuff.

You’ve forgotten to mention the most important part of a roast dinner:
    The pudding.
Not Yorkshire pud but the sweet, fruit, chocolate, cake type, meringue or maybe even cheese.

    Apple crumble, surely?
