Hi,
I may have the opportunity to buy a fairly cheap but very nice steel frame. The only problem is it has a reasonably big dent in the non drive side chainstay. Is this something that could be fixed and if so who by?

Yes, it can be fixed (someone like Argos, amoungst other, would do it) - the question is, would it be economic? Time you've done the repair and a respray, I can't see it being less than £200, depending on the material/quality of job/what refinishing you do.
Are you happy to ride it as it is and accept you may have to pay for a repair in the future, given how much it will ocst you now? Would it still be cheap factoring in the repair costs?

That is exactly what would happen if I tried to do it myself!
I guess it is a steel frame so the likelihood of it being problematic is pretty slim I would think. A bit of filler with a sand down and powdercoat and you'd never know it was there. Or am I being naive? Would it affect the way the frame rides?

Filler will of course be a purely cosmetic repair.
Looks a fairly serious dent - but with the frame being steel welding is possible - welding a patch over it will ensure its strength and be cheap but will be ugly

You wouldn't be able to powdercoat over filler anyway. Frame looks pretty battered, I'd just ride it as is. If it breaks it breaks.

someone fixed a damaged seat stay for me by, effectively, filling it with brass at the site of the damage. Was cheaper than a replacement stay and has held up well.

I think it depends what filler you use. Apparently the powdercoaters use metal on metal filler or something like that.
Yes it's a soul. I've been looking around for a second hand BFe but this is another option I'm considering. I previously owned a soul and always regretted selling it.

As a Mk1 Soul owner I wouldn't be in the least bit worried about that dent.
But as a Mk1 Soul owner, I would check the little drainage holes in the chainstays by the dropouts. My driveside one has a crack that is slowly but surely making its way all the way around. Wel, it did - it's being welded as I write.
Good news is the chainstays are plain CroMo not 853 so anybody can weld them.

I've got a very similar sized dent in the seatstay on my Pitch. I'm just ignoring it.

Ended up going to see the seller today and bought it for 50 quid.
The dent doesn't look too bad and apparently it can be filled with brass and then powder coated so that's the plan for now. Just need to choose the colour now.

That would be all I needed to make the dent go away, if you can't see it, it doesn't exist.

Good point. Can't beat a good project though.
It's set up with the parts from my genesis io at the moment but I'm thinking of building it up a bit burlier. I had been looking around for a BFe.
I've got some 140mm fox floats and slx groupset from my meta that I might put on. I'm also planning on a shorter 60mm stem and some Bontrager XR4 tyres.
