Today at boot sale I found a charming old painting of Exmoor that I liked enough, and so purchased it for a few quids.

Question is – can anyone identify the artist?

This is all I have to go on and after 30 mins am going cross-eyed. (Probably a Chinese bloke that knocked out 40 a week):

Top line is clearly ‘Barry’, the second is anyone’s guess..
    Could maybe be ‘Whittington’? Whitti-something?

    This is annoying me now.

    Is it a Colonel someone?

trying to break apart the H’s that could be ‘ti’, or G’s etc.

I did a Google image search to find similar images to yours and it came back as Gale crater, which is on the surface of Mars.

It’s probably safe to assume that the artist is extra testicle.

Hmmm – Photoshop isn’t helping much.

I’d go with Whit… but the last character looks like a y or g as the descender wraps under.

Good shout on the wrapping under bit, but if it was Whit… that would imply it should be a lower case H rather than what looks like a Capital. That’s kinda why I though the first part was ‘Col H…’

Col H Blythe. Or possibly Col H Higgins.

Is the picture of a bucket of fried chicken?

Would never have guessed in a million years from the letterforms though!

Note to self. When I’m a famous artist – have a decency to have a legible signature!
