  • Dead On-one Parkwood, what next?
  • big_n_daft

My Parkwood has gone on the seat tube above the top tube/ seat stay cluster, crack is 3/4 around

this despite a good seatpost fit, long insertion and riding sensibly for a heavy bloke

any options for a cheap repair in the NW?

What alternative frames that will last? 29er, 120mm forks and L/XL?

    no Kona’s

There was a brand new XL (21″) Stanton Sherpa frame in the classifieds a few days ago… I was tempted but would prefer a 19″.

thanks but too posh for me

needs to be cheaper so I cry less when I break it

I’m 6’2″ so borderline L/XL, the Parkwood fitted great and I’m gutted it’s dead

    Warranty?

    big_n_daft

    bought it from Ton

warranty often doesn’t help, Kona wouldn’t even inspect a frame when a crack appeared at a butt in the coke can thick tubing of a Big Unit, retailer was essentially useless.

Still worth a call? Maybe pm ton?

    I’ll try Ton

It is likely to be outside the 2 years anyway but you never know

he may also be selling another 😉

he’s a great source of kit for me

but what robust alternatives are there?

CRC are clearing out the Vitus Sentier 29er frames for £225 in all sizes. 120mm – 140 mm fork according to the website.

    bikeradar seemed to like it.

Think the parkwood was only released mid 2014 so shouldn’t be out of warranty. My one cracked in a very similar place and I had no problems getting a warrantied replacement.

its not out of warranty as i was with him on his maiden ride and it
was this year when the clocks went fwd

Surely it’s out of warranty once the original owner sells it?

All Planet X, On-One and Titus products carry a 2 year warranty as standard for the original owner.

Does make me wonder if the warranty is valid if the original owner buys it back again though 😉

My on one warranty turned out to be worthless for me and I was the first owner.

Maybe you should go upmarket with a Voodoo Bizango or something?

any more suggestions for cheap and cheerful frames for 120mm forks?

I should have bought the Singular Buzzard that popped up on the classifieds but it’s gone now

I’ve been running my salsa el mariachi with 120s , you can pick up a 2nd hand frame for your budget .

they are a saint on here and sell Kona

essentially they just acted as the postman for emails, Kona eventually offered a frame at trade price, my comment to them was that I wasn’t paying to test their frames anymore

disappointed with the shop and Kona

I cut out the failed section of tubing to show any one buying a Kona and recycled the rest

    Singular Swift

killed one of them in a crash (a big one), not really for 120mm forks with a taper

the Buzzard is more what I want, I was tempted just to bag the one in the classifieds to try but decided not to splash the cash, bad decision

Pinnacle ramin are super cheap at mo frames only

You’d struggle to break an inbred 29er frame for a cheap alternative

Doesn’t help you but Kona just looked a a couple of photos of my cracked frame. They didn’t have any of my frames left so offered my a newer next model up.

    Oooh, meeoow Northwind 🙂
Go ‘upmarket’ to a Bizango, i’d have it level pegging with a parkwood (only to soothe my injured parkwood pride)!

Leftfield answer, sell your bits and get a Fatty Trail?

I’m 100kg and my fatty is standing upto the abuse well.

It was only slightly sarcastic, they’re bloomin brilliant to ride, fit the bill well and the frames can be had for peanuts. And you’re far better off for backup from Halfords than On One, if only because of scale and because Halfords staff don’t generally care enough to rip you off.

Have you actually called Planet X to see what they say about it?

As above, Dartmoor Primal 29″ seems a good deal.

Northwind – I’m sure they’re great to ride too, and i’ve not had the ‘pleasure’ of dealing with Planet x backup.

The Dartmoor Primal looks damn good too, esp in Grey/Black

Vernon Barker could repair your frame so it doesn’t break again.

I’ve got an alu frame to take to him to get repaired very soon, before he becomes old and grey and retires. 😉

He can repair ti and steel and alu frames, and has studied metallurgy.

On one inbred can take a 120mm. Cheap and cheerful. Ok, steel frame and slightly weighty but strong for hefty people.
