it'll bring lightness unto dark, surely that's good ?

(my road bike has a 9sp rapid rise mech on it – works fine)

9speed 105 and 9speed xt rear mech work so can't see why 10speed would be any different

Ten speed MTB rear mechs have a different accuation ratio from 9 speed MTB and 9/10 speed road. So you can use a 9 speed MTB mech but a 10 speed probably won't work.

Mister P – thanks for that. I'm a bit surprised though as IIRC Shimano 9sp road & MTB have the same actuation ratio (I'm fairly sure some tourers have come with Tiagra shifters & Deore mechs) & I'd assumed 10sp would be the same. Back to the drawing board then – I gather SRAM 10sp
stuff pulls the same amount of cable whether MTB or road…
