Love my Hobgoblin, but find it a bit hit and miss depending on the batch, I guess. Just had a really good London Porter, what other good dark beers am I missing ?

There are the world of good stouts and porters available these days. I’ll just big up two of my local ones, Bristol Beer Factory’s Milk Stout and Bath Ales’ Dark Side. Both lovely. Though, with a whiff of Spring in the air, I won’t really be drinking them again much this year.

    DD suggests good ale there.
And also another good suggestion, go local. Get to your local brewery and try their dark beer.

All the more reason to avoid being like the post-hibernation “blonde” drinkers, and get stuck into the dark stuff… #niche

I do like old P ( of course) but at 5.7% I tend to just have the one and move on to something a little less brain melting.

Funnily enough… I probably need to look in the mirror a bit more, out on a ride somebody mentioned the the ride leader had a beard to someone and they pointed to me and said oh is it him.. I had no idea that I need a shave that badly ( I was not leading the ride)

    …..Now clean ( ish ) shaven

I recently tried these smoked beers

The Oak Smoked (green label) one was the best.

    Mmmmm…..Smoked Beer

It was surprisingly nice. The Oak one is only made at Christmas so it might be harder to find later in the year. The standard one is beechwood smoked. It was a bit rougher but still nice. The Oak is about 8% iirc so only a couple are needed 🙂

If you can find some of this, it’s worth pretty much whatever you have to pay for it.

CFH has it. Mikkeller Beer Hop/Geek Breakfast is a damn fine beverage. One of the finest…ever.

Salopian Black-Ops and Kernal Export Indian Porter are pretty nice too in a similar vein.

For a more regular tipple Hawkshead Brodie’s Prime

    I love dark beers me.

Hobgoblin is a favourite, Dark Lord is nice, Black sheep obviously.

My favourite though is Holts ‘Black’

Only ever get it in the Black Dog in Belmont but I love just sitting there smacking my lips like an old man. Sticky, tasty and wonderful.
