    I’d be interested to see how long an alloy rim would’ve lasted in comparison – for those that say they’re just as light, strong, yadda, yadda….

    I descended from Mt Keen to the car park at the head of Glen Esk with no rear tyre on a Mavic D521 alloy rim, the rim was still in one piece, I doubt a carbon rim would have survived.

    It’s not that it isn’t strong – it’s that the video didn’t communicate it as effectively as it might have. The ‘smacking the frame repeatedly’ one in the SC offices definitely worked for me.

    Rolling down some stairs – not so much. Visually it just doesn’t achieve the same result. The problem being that we all subject rims to abuse and expect them to take it. Strong wheels have been available forever.
