they finally covered it for a few brief moments in the Daily Politics show on BBC2 this lunchtime. But no other coverage by the news editors despite its penetration globally.
You can draw your own inferences (not just about the BBC but about the wider mainstream media).

ransos - wrong, the guardian is reporting the "internet phenomenon" not the speech. Very different news agenda. I said in the thread yesterday that it would happen and that when they do do it, the mainstream media will be showing themselves up.

ransos - the speech was made on Tuesday. Copy was published online staight after Gordon's speech. Hannan's speach was given 6 minutes after Gordons.
that is not cutting edge journalism whichever way you look at it.

What do you suggest they should have done? " Minor Tory politician attacks Gordon Brown" is hardly front page news. No, the interest around the speech is in fact to do with its being popularised by the web. As the Guardian reported.

I concede that, as has been mentioned before, its nothing more than a "Dog bites man" story. But not more so than most other political stories reported everyday. And his speech was one of only two given in response to Gordon's speech by British members of the EU. The BBC managed to find the time and space to report on comments made by a non-UK MEP that were supportive of Gordon, natch.

Ransos-the interest around the speech for those that have been able to see it is around the fact that Brown has been told the truth and lots of us love it. The delay in reporting is not just in the tax dodging guardian but also the torygraph. The bbc to scared to show it in case. If it was shown live across all channels tonight I reckon the mood of the nation would lift just like when england won the world cup.

Again the content of the very brief daily politics speech was more about the viral nature of its global penetration than the content. Not to mention the rather retrospective admission that the BBC HADNT covered the story until then. ALmost embarassed Id say.

In the politics of partisanship there is no "The Nation" there are parts of "The Nation" - and for better or worse each parts' interests should be met. Or do you see censorship by ommission as being an acceptable feature of journalism and democracy?

"Censorship"!! FFS, grow up man. You said yourself that this isn't a particularly interesting story, and so has received the commensurate amount of coverage.
And as for "voice of opposition", I don't think so. Opposition is about a different way of doing things. The Tories have been conspicuously unable to explain how they would have avoided the current economic situation. Because they know full well that there's nothing in their policies over the last 10 years to suggest that the current outcome would have been different.
It was a well-delivered bitch-slapping for sure, but that's all it was.

And of course it's a voice of opposition. An opposition attack needn't have answers to give it credibility. Hell, government statements dont even contain answers or plans: should they be ignored?
Im no tory, although yes I revel in any discomfort that Gordon can be made to feel, but your dismissal of the unbalanced reporting of two parties views on the economic prospects of the country says more about your partisanship than mine.
Our economy is going to shrink to a greater extent than any other of the advanced G7 economies. If you believe our prime minsister we "are uniquely placed" to ride the economic turmoil. In the sense that we are "uniquely" more fecked than anyone else, maybe he's right.

I know the Martin Bell school of politics would like to see all MP's pass a test of integrity before being permitted to wax on a subject but its not going to happen.* EDIT: In fact gordon's been very quiet on his numbers and statistics lately. He's almost run out of good ones to pick!

The BBC had it in full and interviewd the chap on PM just now. Many of these programs are planned early so cant adjust very fast. PM on the other hand is a little more topical.
I think we are now seeing how the internet brings the story to the viewers faster than the polititions spin doctors / lobbyists.
Isnt it called Webocracy ?
Still, Gordons not going to change his tune, so we are all fcuked.
