Its been mentioned once or twice that cycles are categorized as Band A vehicles for legal purposes, however i cant find any info as to whether this is actually the case.
I understand that cycles are legally carriages after an act of 1888 but can anyone furnish me with a link please?

Having a discussion about this at work today and i was pretty sure cycles are legally classed as Band A for some reason.

I don’t think they are. The bandings are for VED, which does not apply to cycles.

I think it’s used as a rebuttal to the ‘you don’t pay road tax’ jibe, because even if we were subject to it we’d be band A and not pay anything anyway.

I thought it was to do with the point that as cycles are legally carriages, and carriages under law are taxed then for classification purposes they are designated Band A carriages.

..or maybe not!

Motorcycles are classed on the tax disc as ‘cycle’. Makes sense I guess, maybe the engine doesn’t count 😆
