I’m pretty sure a decent thread or two has appeared about re-writing your CV (including some tips from agency type ppl), blown if I can find em on here.
Any thoughts on a good CV now, or links to the thread? even the simple stuff like should it be 2 or 3 pages long?

2 pages, 3 pages max. Unless you’ve goz shedloads of experience. Keep it clean and easy to read. A photo is useful, assuming you’ve got a presentable one. Include contact info…
Ideally, custonise it for each application you make, to show why you should be considered -try to show what’s relevant to the job you’re after

Check your spelling, punctuation and dates. Check it again, then get someone else to check. Then check it again

are you a recent graduate? my uni offer a CV checking service up to 3 years after leaving.

I email my CV and the job spec over to the uni careers dept, when I apply for a job I really want and they advise me on any changes to make. People say you don’t need to customise your CV for every job, but in this climate you have to.

    2 pages absolute max.
The first ‘profile’ statement at the top of the first page is all that most ‘sifters’ will read, so make it punchy..
Use ‘power’ words like ‘successful’ key strength’ ‘energy’ ‘effective’
Find out as much as you can about the company and role you are applying for and ‘tune’ your CV so that you align your past experience/ education towards those criteria.
i.e If safety is a big part of the job you are applying for, mention any safety related accomplishments etc.
Dont use words like ‘try’ or ‘strive’, this indicates a failure to achieve. you either have achieved or you have not.
One last thing, dont say things like ‘I was part of a team that did this or that’. This indicates that you couldnt achieve anything by yourself. Make it about YOU ONLY.. ‘I won several new accounts, tripling our income’ (in the interview you may be asked how YOU did it)
    Good luck!

It does rather depend on the job and your specialism. For example, a scientific doctor might have a three pager with the third being a list of published articles and speaking/lecturing positions. A person in the design world might have a much larger CV with a mini portfolio. A salesman selling photocopiers need only have a two pager highlighting achievements in the world of photocopier sales.

So, the key question is, what’s your bag?
