    My brake hoses are tool long so I need to shorten them. I;ve got the shimano olive and insert. I’ve done it before but can’t remember the procedure. Anyone done it recently and can advise?

    What’s the insert for?

    Thanks

    theres nothing much to remember if youve done it before;

    -undo hose from lever, slide screw sleeve down the hose
    -cut the hose with a sharp knife
    -push new olive on to hose
    -tap new insert into end of hose (dont crush hose as you hold it, I didnt have the special hose clamping tool so I wrapped in a bit of inner tube then clamped in pliers, worked fine)
    -slide screw sleeve up the hose
    -screw it back into the lever

    the sleeve crushes the olive pushing the hose into the lever, the insert gives a tight seal between the hose end and the lever. you might need to re-bleed, but you might be able to get away with “burping” any air that has got in at the top by taking the reservoir cover off, pushing the pads all the way back into the calipers which will push fluid (and air) back into the reservoir. May need to top up with fluid.
