My bro got knocked off his bike yesterday by some uninsured tool. It got me to thinking – now my commute has just been extended to go through the city, perhaps I should be a member of CTC or BC to get some legal cover.

Can anybody advise on this? Any recommendations or otherwise?

    Definitely – do it.
I’d say CTC over BC – they work to make the roads safer, campaign for cyclists in parliament etc; while BC promote racing.

Yes and no – BC have done and continue to do a lot of campaign work, they’ve been involved in The Times’ Safe Cities for Cycling campaign and in Parliament as well. They’re also involved with the Forestry Commission, helping to open up more FC land for biking.

Both organisations are good and it’s well worth membership of either – most people join for the insurance benefits although both do good discounts and extra benefits.
