Got a new frame and transferred all my kit over incl. a newish King headset which ran perfectly on the old frame. Now on the new frame it creaks and has lightly scored/marked the steerer tube. Switching to an old non-King headset, there’s no creaking. Re-fitting and re-adjusting the King headset has proved hopeless.

I’ve fitted a couple of Kings before with no probs and this one ran fine on the old frame. Any clues what to do? (And it does have the plastic ‘washer’).

Has the frame been faced? it seems that CK headsets can be a bit sensitive to this.
Is it done up tight enough?

Had a few like this at work. Try a little bit of bearing fit when installing cups. If it still creaks then change the headset.

They are known to nibble steerers.

to avoid steerer scoring keep your King on the bottom of head tube and fit your old headset to top of head tube

(can fit top King to another frame on the bottom, just need to buy a crown race)
