cotic soul size and fork recommendations

evening all,

I currently ride a scott scale carbon hardtail and whilst it's weight is great for the ups, when it comes to a techy descent I'd rather be on my inbred SS any day.

So... got thinking about a frame or frame/fork swap.

I'm 5'11" and just fit the medium frames on the scott and the on-one.

any ideas whether a medium is likely to be okay for the cotic or if I'd need to go large?

Also, I've never run (or felt the need to) forks over 100mm - and I intend to re-use my standard QR wheels from the scott, so is it worth going to 120? I ride mainly in the lakes.

any comments or experiences shared are much appreciated

I used to own a cotic soul and was very pleased with it's performance the back end really does have a spring in it and I found it comfy when I went to north wales . My build had a set of 140mm bolt thr forks and although this was good for downhills it did wonder slightly up hill ( not much ) so with 120mm forks this would be perfect I'm 5ft 10 and the medium was fine for me but bare in mind these frames are ment to be compact and chuckable which is exactly what they are like trust me , if you have any doubts phone cy at cotic he is very pleased to help , hope this helps

I'm about 5'10" and ride a medium Soul. Got magura phaons on mine which I twiddle with occasionally but mostly run at 120ish mm. Would be interested in forks with maxle but not a priority at moment

6ft with long legs here and on a large 19inch, with a 70 mm stem and inline post, sat on a medium and was a tad too small although i fit a 18 inbred with a 90 mm stem and layback post
got 130mm pace rc41s 20mm and they feel spot on with lockdown for silly steep stuff, tried some pikes at 140mm and it felt slow and sluggish, so 120-130mm max is the sweet spot for me anyway

Dave, I am just shy of 6' and ride a medium Soul with Talas forks which I run pretty much all the time at the lowest (100mm) setting and am liking it that way. Surprisingly I find it climbs better that way and don't really notice any issues on the downs.

On a medium you'll need a layback seat pin and probably a 90mm stem (I am going to try a 70mm any day now when I can be bothered to fit it).

5 10 tall , with 32 inside leg on a medium 2010 frame.

Have a look at the images (see link), forks are Revelations set at around 120mm.

Spot on sizing really, I was facing the same issue - medium is the right size.

Should add I am 6ft ride a medium with minimal layback and a 70mm stem - feel great.

Thanks everyone, and lovely pics Denis99 - are those forks on a standard QR hub?

I think I'd go medium on the back of all your advice and just squeeze on to it like I do my other bikes (I prefer the look too!), and probably sell my Fox terralogics in order to try a 5" fork

now for that familiar dismantle and ebay routine of the long-term sufferer of bike-upgrade-itis...

im 5'10" i ride a medium with an inline post and 70mm stem. Got uturn rev maxle lights up front constantly set too 125mm but with a lot of sag.

Yes, standard quick release Revs.

There's been quite a bit of discussion lately about what forks for a soul, the majority seem to be in the 100 to 120mm area.

I can't comment too much at the moment, as I'm off the bike with some leg problems - but from the limited riding I've done , it seems to suit the Reba 100-120 Maxle really well.

I'm just under 6 foot too, medium with coil Pikes at 120mm most of the time, I do like dropping them if doing a long climb though.

I think the medium would be fine-you can always alter it slightly with different stems/layback posts etc if needed.

100mm forks will be fine as-well. I previously had a soul and ran with 100-130mm forks and no matter what setting they were at it still performed well!

Nice bikes, go for it.

5' 11" + a bit, ride a Medium + it fits perfectly. Use U-turn Revs mostly at 115-120 with them on 130 for sustained/ steep descents + occasionally wound down to 90 mm for long tedious sit down climbs that are reasonably steep. ACE bike.

Run air U turn revs 100 - 130mm. Most of the time have them between 100 - 110. Sometimes wind them out to 120. For bigger downhill bits run them at 130 just for confidence. Oh and medium here with a layback setpost but would now go for an inline one so I'm more over the forks when sitted.

I'd go for a medium. The top tube is 23.25" on that as it is, which should be perfect for your height.

I'm 5'11" and ride a large in custard yellow with a 80mm stem. Revelation U-turn forks usually set at 130mm. Brilliant.
