My seatpost was falling down, the bolt was galling/binding when tightening (steel on steel). Previous owner (having taken advice on an internet forum?) had slathered threads in coppaslip.

A quick clean and re-grease and everything is now fine…just going to show that coppaslip is not always appropriate or heplful!

Well it DID work properly. How so? Becasue the bolt wasn’t SEIZED was it? 😛

Indeed, point is I’ve seen it recommended for all sorts when it shouldn’t be (and IMO does no better job in preventing corrosion than grease)

I have the halfords version. It’s very thin grease – suspect it wouldn’t stay put for very long and probably would get squeezed out of any joint subject to pressure, such as the sliding surfaces of a QR clamp or where the bolt head butts up to the clamp. Not too sure how long any copper would remain after greasy bit was gone

It’s great for stopping seizing though (BB threads etc)

Any lubricant on a seatpost/seat tube is going to allow slippage though – amount prob dependent on how good the lubricant is

Coppaslip is not a grease or a lube – its an antiseize compound.

Copaslip, is a HIGH TEMP anti seize and LUBRICATing, GREASE compound!

It has saved my ass alot of times!

now heat some normal grease upto 1000 degrees and see what happends?

Funny, I always thought broken glass was an appropriate sandwich filling…

Curiously after a small bite all my gums were shreaded and bleeding.

I changed the broken glass for penut butter and my teeth are fine, how can this possibly be?

TJ – I thought copaslip works as anti-seize because copper even on it’s own is a decent lubricant (nice & soft, shears easily) ?
the grease/vehicle is just a means of applying it initally, I thought

Well coppaslip is banned on a lot of sites as it has a tendancy to cause explosions when subject to high temperatures and/or hydrocarbons. Go on heat some coppaslip upto 1000degC, I dare you……….
