So I’m fairly certain I saw a dead wallaby at the side of the road. If I’d been driving through the highlands of Victoria this would not have been unusual, however I was in the Lowlands of Fife just north of the Forth Bridge on the A90

So is this possible or do I need to check what I put in my coffee this morning?

Fife Zoo escapee – it’s a long old hop from Ladybank though?
There used to be a bear that lived in Glen Devon.

So did the I wonder what that is mental game.

Size of a small deer and tawny brown. Face like a rodent but smallish ears. BIG TAIL!

Immediately thought “Wallaby” (I grew up in Oz so know what they look like)

There’s feral wallabies at Loch Lomond isn’t there? Could have hitch hiked, unlikely with those little thumbs i know.

There have been odd groups of “wild” wallabies all over the UK.

Mostly escaped from menageries/private collections rather than zoos.

There are a number of non-native feral animals that have established small colonies, wallabies, raccoons, Lynx, muntjac and Chinese water deer, and examples pop up as road-kill all over the place.
So far no leopard, puma, lion or other big cat.

You can find rouge wallabies on the Isle of Man which escaped from the wildlife park there.

There’s quite a few on the loose in the southeast, a few have been spotted by friends near Canterbury, Kent and Colchester Zoo, Essex.

The vicar of Boughton, Northants, ran over* and killed a wallaby on the M1 near Milton Keynes some years ago. True story.

Most likely escapees from wipsnade or Woburn. Been spotted about in these parts for years. Saw one in the woods round tring decades ago.

Actually thinking about it – those short little arms are probably why it got run over – has to stand too close to the road to stick their thumb out. Thats probably why you didn’t see dead gibbons on the same trip.

I think they are all dead now. The colony lasted quite a few years but finally disappeared.

You haven’t seen many dead wallabies before then… tail should be the first giveaway clue, that and the size.
