    Morning all,

Having just picked up the first puncture on my new single speeder and not having an axle nut spanner with me I was wondering if it was possible to swap out the solid axle on a hub for a hollow QR one?

    The hubs are Joytech discs.

    Thanks!

Wouldn’t it be just easier to carry a spanner?

You can get qr ready hollow axles – basically just rod threaded at each end with a hole through the middle. Take the hub apart first to check it is just a straight-through threaded rod type of axle arrangement. Rear would be 10mm dia, front might be 9mm. QR skewer hole is always 5mm AFAIK.

@b r – probably, but I don’t trust myself not to forget it sometime!

@greyspoke – ah cool, I’ll have a poke about and see if I can find some – thanks!

I drilled 2 holes into a spanner to fit onto the bottle cage bolts, a coupla rubber washed to protect the frame, screwtop bolts and it sits there ready for whenever I need it (remember to remove and grease the threads occasionally).
