    – Is there a cheap (ie free) way ?

I’ve looked at simple copying & pasting but it looks shite and I’m a bit too lazy to then tidy it up and proof read it all in case anything’s got lost (moderately big doc)

Nobody in the building has an acrobat licence

    Will I die ?

by the time you’ve searched the interweb for a wonder-service you could have done copy>paste>manual reformat & tidy up.
I doubt there is anything that can produce a perfect replica of the PDF file without manual tidying.

I just saw PDF and Word in the same sentance and pressed ‘Send Post’.

Sometimes it’s nice to be first.

google drive/docs can do it to some extent using OCR functions. But its not 100% fool proof.

the whole point of a pdf is that you can’t manipulate it.

Copy and paste and tidy is (I’m sure) your only option.

Send it to me if you want. I have to nip out very soon though. How much of a rush is it? DanJ.Heywood at gmail dot com.

I can convert the pdf to a word .doc file, but won’t ‘muck around’ with it if the formatting goes wonky etc.

ah, thanks mugsy’s – can’t really send it as it’s not a public doc

will have a go with the various suggestions though
