lets say, i bought a frame with a tapered headtube, and a fork to match, and the headtube was not of the integrated variety. is there a headset which can be used which has a split race like the hope headsets? sorry if its a daft question, bunged up with cold and feeling slow. cheers

Hope actually make them if that's what you're asking. They also make them for tapered and standard steerers.

Any cartridge bearing headset that fits.

Just cut a slot in the crown race yourself ( hacksaw makes short work of it). I've been doing this for years and I've never had a problem.

Hi Coatsey, i wanted to hear that, couldn't see the Hope one around with a quick look. will look harder ta.

if the split crown race is easy to DIY why don't CK use a manufactured split race?

Just ordered one for a customer a day or two back, essentially a hybrid of 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" headsets as far as I know, but not seen it yet.
