l use Mountain Kings at the moment, they’re ok, but im thinking of changing to Magic Marys (poss a razor on the rear)- is there a big penalty in weight and rolling resistance? Does anyone have experience of both tyres – especially on the front, ive decided to just remove the rear tyre as they are apparently not needed any more (Aaron Gwinn reference).

    Thanks

The Magic Mary will be wildly grippier almost everywhere, more resistant to pinch flats, draggier, heavier and wear faster. It’ll be a huge improvement IMO and the only question really is what to run on the back.
I’m running two Marys and love them but I’m thinking of trying a spare Hans Dampf pacestar that I’ve got on the rear to speed things up a little.

I don’t rate the Hans Dampfs for rolling speed. Running Trailstar/Pacestar Front/Rear atm, and they grip really well, in most conditions. But I find they drag compared to the RQs I was running beforehand. Admittedly that is comparing a 2.35 to a 2.2, albeit a large 2.2.

    Just my 2p.
