Hi all, I want to give my rear hub a service, I need to get a 15 mm and a 17mm cone spanner. My question is, do I buy these off eBay?

Obviously i’ll need to get 17mm and 18mm one as we’ll.
Or spend a bit more and get this set from CRC?

How much will I use cone spanners? I mean what else requires them?
    Thanks all,
    Chris

How much you’ll use them is only a question you can really answer. I’ve rarely used them for anything other than cones – but I have many cup and cone hubs and they’ve had years of use. Quality wise they need to be reasonable as the thin steel will become damaged otherwise. This is particularly important if the manufacturer has over tightened them during assembly.

I like the set but you probably don’t really need it.

One thing I do prefer is single ended cone spanners, they feel better when getting the cup and cone just right but the tbh anything will be fine as long as you stick to well known brands that should not be made of cheese.

+1 on the cyclo cone spanner set.

Bought mine years ago, been quite heavy handed with them, i have found that cone nut’s and washers tend to round off…..spanners so far undamaged.
Bought on price and expected limited useage, also nice slim design and multi size nuttage in one cheap package.
