    1) do you mean modem, or do you mean router?

    2) when you say “it comes up with,” what does it actually come up with? Don’t paraphrase.

You’re using a dial-up modem / ADSL modem and the saved credentials are wrong? Is that what you mean?

Two computers having connectivity issues – are you sure it’s a computer problem? Symptoms?

    What was the original problem?

Where I’m going with this is, if your DSL is down, changing computers isn’t going to help.

    Rebooted the router?

The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network.

It’s saying your WiFi password is incorrect, most likely. You should be able to re-enter it, but the easiest attack might be to delete the connection (double-click on the WiFi icon in System Tray) and recreate it.

    Original questions stand though.

Ah! The old one works, the new one doesn’t. Sorry, misunderstood.

    Vista or W7?

    Problem solved!!

Srsly, deleting the existing connection (uh, Network Places / right-click / Properties / Manage or some such) is probably the easiest fix.

There’s an ugly thing in Vista called ‘Windows Connect Now’ which is supposed to simplify the (obviously monumentally difficult) procedure of hooking up to a router. It can go loopy, so it’s worth being aware of. There’s an overview here.

If it’s not something you’ve set, it’ll probably be on a sticker underneath the router.

    1) you may have chosen it or set it up when you got the thing
    2) they may have picked it for you and it’ll be somewhere in the bumph they sent you
    3) it might be written on the bottom of the router in the form XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX or some such.
