I have a 3hp compressor. I've wired it up to the fusebox and it ran perfectly for a week or so. Yesterday it started as usual and when it nearly got up to max pressure the motor started to stall and tripped the reset button.

Would the problem lie with the electric motor or with the compressor?

You could try setting your cut off pressure a little lower to stop the motor having to work against the highest receiver pressure – normally the problems are from the high start current so fuses tend to trip on startup.

3hp is perhaps on the top end of what domestic wiring will cope with (though I think you have wired direct to your fuseboard?)

Is the reset on the compressor tripping or is the breaker at the fuseboard tripping?

Its the reset on the compressor that is tripping. The compressor itself sits alongside the fuse board so there should be very little voltage drop. I may have a go at reducing the cut off pressure. Thanks
